RECEPTIONS
Why live music?
Nothing could be more fitting to accompany the conversations of
your reception than energetic, professionally performed and beautiful
live music. Much of the classical repertoire was written for religious,
political or social gatherings! Live musicians play for their listeners;
it is one of their skills. A CD of recorded music amplified through
a pair of speakers -no matter how accomplished the recorded ensemble
-can never react personally to your guest!
Repertoire
Once Archdukes, Kings and Princes regularly commissioned paintings,
dramas, and specially composed music to transform public and private
occasions. Wealthy patrons, governments and corporations carry on
this tradition and today, over six hundred years of specially composed
music is available to everyone. Allegra Strings is constantly adding
to its music library. They play original works by Haydn, Mozart
and arrangements of your favourite pieces. Allegra plays music for
dancing - the waltz, tango and polka -as well as selections of music
from favourite ballets and opera.
Allegra Strings suits the dress to the occasion, from nicely casual
to formal.

There are no frets on any violin, viola or cello
fingererboard. Only the feelings from the thumb, the position
of the hand, and the sounds in the player's ears, indicate where
the notes are to be found. It takes over 10 years to learn a stringed
instrument. After those years of private study, players who wish
to become professional take a four year Music Performance Degree
in addition to apprenticing for many years in non-professional
and beginning professional orchestras and chamber ensembles. Many
go back for a Masters Degree in their particular specialty.
For those who are curious about what goes on in
a hard working orchestral rehearsal, here
is a film of Herbert van Karajan rehearsing Schumann's 4th
symphony with the Vienna Philharmonic.
